Tulabelle is one of the 16" doll lines from Integrity Toys - she's supposed to be Poppy Parker's granddaughter, working as a famous fashion blogger. It is characterized by the modern, often eccentric fashions the dolls wear. Up until now, the doll shared a sculpt with Fashion Teen Poppy Parker, with a more modern look applied. Now, she has a new face. The sculpt has changed to look more adult. As the line's designer, David Buttry said:

The proportions may look fine but the face does look bland and a bit weird. It is if Poppy and Hanne Erikson had a child together. It's good for my wallet though. I like some of the separate fashions and accessories but nothing so much that I'd buy a doll for it. The make up on the dolls though is fantastic - I hope we get to see it on other lines too.

The fashion consists of a coral pink jacket with blouson sleeves, cropped sleeveless top with Poppy Parker™ screen print in navy blue, green trousers, and orange platform pumps. An orange shiny faux leather shrimp shaped clutch and hot pink faux suede platform Mary Jane shoes finish off this mod inspired ensemble. A doll stand is included. Back in 2011, Mattel released their first Tokidoki Barbie doll, which instantly became the talk of the town, even outside the doll collector world. She was a step outside the box for the company, with her pink hair and body covered in tattoos, which caused a stir among parents. It was a huge success commercially and now commands high prices in the secondary market. No wonder then that the two companies work together again; I was expecting it sooner rather than later.

This time around she's a Black Label cool (not a Gold, like the previous one) and designed by Bill Greening and Tokidoki company. She will be probably be available for sale on the 1st of September, according to her now defunct page in the Barbie Collector site. She wears a sequinned top to show off her intricate tattoos. The skirt features many of the whimsical characters that have inhabited the world of Tokidoki for 10 years. With her Cactus Friend Polppetina by her side, she carries a chic silvery clutch and also comes with a Tokidoki gift bag. There will be a limit of 1 doll per order.

The headpiece must be the same, just with different front and back to offer variety in styling. The sculpt is the Karl one, which was of course first seen on the Karl Lagerfeld Barbie doll. She's not articulated though, unlike that doll, which of course is always a shame. She's not my cup of tea but I bet she will make many collectors happy and many resellers even happier.

Bratz was a playline fashion doll that threatened Barbie sales - maybe even surpassed them - when they first came out in 2001. Designed by Carter Bryant, a former Mattel employee, with 10" bodies, huge heads, heavily made up and dressed in what looked like the then current street style, they were an instant hit with girls that were bored with more conservative Barbie dolls and wanted something more like them to play with. They were so successful that Mattel issued its own line, My Scene. The battle reached its apex in 2004, when Mattel sued MGA (the Bratz maker) for copying, alleging that their designer was still working for Mattel when he came up with the concept. After a lot of legal wrangling, MGA was ordered to pull Bratz from selves. Even though the decision was later reversed, the damage had been done. Bratz sales went into a slump.

The line did try to come back once again. back in 2010, changing the size of the bodies (12"), new logos and slogans, but it did not make any waves. There were even complaints about quality being inferior to previous product. After some time, the company pulled back all lines in 2014 to overhaul the dolls and re-launch this year. As the tastes of their target group have shifted drastically, with the success of lines such as Monster High and Ever After High, they have some serious competition to beat. Not to mention the avalanche that Frozen dolls have been since that franchise surfaced.

I was never a fan of doll lines like this, so I cannot say if the attempt to brink back this line will be successful or not. MGA is suing Mattel for industrial espionage now (they filed a lawsuit back in 2014) so there are still issues to be worked out on the business side of things. MGA is trying to open up the line to social media as well, like instagram and youtube. They revamped their website too (see photo above) but it's weirdly devoid of product photos so far. There's even an app for smartphones. After this first wave, MGA is releasing at least three more waves until Christmas.

Today Integrity Toys officially unveiled to collectors (yesterday for W Club members) the much anticipated Nu Face return collection. Even though the first dolls from this line were presented last year at the Gloss convention, this is the first release for the general public, through dealers. Do not wait, contact your Integrity Toys authorize dealer to pre-order today, as some of these dolls could already be sold out (or ready to be). IT named it a capsule collection. Indeed there are only 5 dolls included, and much to my surprise (and I bet most people's too), no sign of the twins, Eden and Lilith. Colette is absent too as well as Annik. Are they reserved for the convention? We'll see. The look of the fashions is very Versace circa early 90s, from the cuts to the colours to the earrings, without the over-embellishing, which I like a lot. Let's go check out the five beauties who made it.

Erin S. is a fully articulated 12-inch vinyl doll with long, rooted hair and hand applied eyelashes. She comes dressed in high-waist skinny trousers with faux-leather waistband detail, a vibrant red long-sleeve crop top and a grey fleece jacket. To say Erin is the best doll of this collection would be an understatement. I love everything about her, from the gorgeous outfit (which would be perfect if the coat was in black taffeta and lined with the same red of the top) to the doll's face (she has an amazing expression) and make up. And strawberry blond hair with a Japan skintone? Bring it on! The lovely bag, shoes and earrings, plus two non-descript bangles, complete the outfit perfectly. 

Nadja R. is a fully articulated 12-inch vinyl doll with long, middle-parted, fully rooted hair and hand applied eyelashes. Nadja is wearing a contrasting outfit composed of a bright yellow criss-cross long-sleeved cropped top worn with a faux-leather intricately draped mini-skirt. Ms. Rhymes completes her look with a faux-leather and faux-fur jacket, zipped high-heeled booties and a swank bright orange over-sized leather tote. For adult collectors ages 15 and up. Nadja has always been my favourite Nu Face doll (even though Colette has the same sculpt, she did not click with me like the much more outré and edgy Nadja did) and I was anxiously waiting to see what the new sculpt would look like. I am on the fence about it, seeing the promo photos here, and will wait to have the actual doll in hand to make my final judgement. I can easily say though that she is wearing the second best outfit of the collection. One detail I hope will be different in the final doll though: the uneven hair ends. Although easily corrected with a snip of my scissors, it is not something I expect to see in a doll in this price range.

Ayumi N. is a fully articulated 12-inch vinyl doll with long, wavy, rooted hair and hand applied eyelashes. She is modelling a light grey draped mini-dress, with contrasting charcoal grey nylons and laced up pumps. The look is complete with the addition of a cinched faux/mink overcoat. Does this Ayumi look like a twin of the Gloss convention one or what? I still think the original sculpt was much better looking, but she is a beauty in her own right. She's the third lady from this collection to be coming home. She's also the only one not wearing anything brightly coloured. All dolls wear separates, which means great possibilities of mix-and-match for all. 

Dominique Makeda is a fully articulated 12-inch vinyl doll with long, wavy, rooted hair and hand applied eyelashes. Dominique wears a cocktail dress and hot pink contrasting jacket, complimented by mid-calf high boots, a bag and jewellery. For adult collectors ages 15 and up. Dominique never did it for me, in any incarnation, and this is no exception. The dress looks like a bad version of the Herve Leger Barbie black and white outfit, which is  not good at all. Lovely eyes though.

Giselle D. is a fully articulated 12-inch vinyl doll with long, wavy, rooted hair and hand applied eyelashes. Giselle's look is composed of a high-contrast, black lace top with draped satin detail and brooch at the front, midi-skirt and a perfectly cinched shaved faux-fur jacket. The doll that I was expecting to be the star of this collection, is easily the biggest disappointment (personal opinion). I do not like the make up at all, it makes her look weird, more like a cheap imitation of Agnes than her rebellious stylish younger sister. The top is something that Nolan Miller dreamt about in one of his nightmares: only Alexis Carrington Colby could pull this off and that would be back in 1980. Giselle is usually the first character of Nu Face to usually be sold out, so I am happy I do not like this one at all, it saved me the trouble of hunting her all over the place. The bag and booties are amazing though (but are the exact same as Nadja's), as well as the triangular earrings.

I love the Rayna sculpt and do not own one yet. I am entering this lottery hoping to get her. She's easily the best doll of the bunch. Rare Jewel is a fully articulated 12-inch vinyl doll with long, rooted hair and hand applied eyelashes. The doll comes dressed in an intricately constructed silky cocktail dress and comes with golden faux-leather belt and matching strappy heels. For adult collectors ages 15 and up. Doll cannot stand alone; stand included. The dress looks like those worn by an older IT Direct release of Natalia and Jordan.

I think it's the cut of the outfit that breaks this doll. This print needed something more modern to stand out. The face is beautiful though. Night is a fully articulated 12-inch vinyl doll with long, straight rooted hair and hand applied eyelashes. The doll comes dressed in a basic dress and comes with elegant black pumps. Easily awarded best shoes of the bunch. I do not like the lips here, the rest is perfect. These last two dolls must be the first with the FR2 body. Is it me or does her head look a tad too big for her body? Such a lovely doll otherwise, perfect combinations of colour.
